17 Years of Raising the Breed We Love
17 years ago, our family took a leap into the unknown. At the time, the American Bully was a rare, almost legendary breed in Canada. Most locals only knew traditional Staffies or Pit Bulls — but after months of researching the breed's trademark blocky heads, muscular builds, and notoriously gentle temperaments, we brought home our first pocket bully puppy, and the journey officially began.
Starting out wasn't easy. Importing genetics required navigating strict protocols, endless paperwork, and an incredible amount of patience. We were determined to do things right — prioritizing health testing, temperament, and functional structure above all else.
From One Program to a Nationwide Network
Over the next decade, we refined our own breeding program and built real relationships with other passionate, responsible breeders across Canada — people who shared our standards for health testing, temperament, and functional structure. As demand for well-bred Pocket Bully and XL American Bully puppies grew nationwide, those relationships became the foundation of the vetted partner network we operate today.
Coordinating a family alongside a foundational pack of heavy-set, short-muzzled dogs takes patience — health clearances, custom crate fittings, and careful travel planning, every step of the way. We settled onto a property near Nanaimo, BC, where Pocket XL Bullies is based today, coordinating a nationwide network of vetted partner breeders.
